OBSTETRICS

PRENATAL CARE

When you discover you are pregnant, call the office or stop by to schedule your prenatal care visits.  Your first appointment will be with a nurse, and will last about an hour.  She will record your medical history, previous pregnancies and generally introduce you to our practice.  Information about nutrition, exercise, personal care, weight gain and working during pregnancy will be reviewed.  During this visit you will also be asked to go to the lab to have blood drawn for routine prenatal tests.

At your second appointment you will meet your primary doctor or midwife who will review your medical history and perform a complete physical examination.  He or she will discuss your special needs and problems and make any necessary plans to ensure a safe pregnancy and birth for you and your baby.  Subsequent visits include recording of your weight, blood pressure, fetal heart tones and routine urinalysis.

Your visits will generally be monthly up to 28 weeks of pregnancy, then more frequent as you near your due date.  The majority of your visits will scheduled with your primary physician.  If you have a problem and your primary provider is not able to see you, you may be seen by another provider in the group.  We assure you that one of us is always available and ready to assist you.
