Hot Flash Prevention By Dietary Modification

Patients wishing to boost their levels of soy, flaxseed, and fish oils can try the following strategies, recommended by experts interviewed for this story.

SOY. One serving of soy a day and an increase in fruits and vegetables will improve a woman’s intake of isoflavones.

FLAXSEED. 1-2 tbsps of flaxseed in baked goods or sprinkled on cereal provides a healthy dose of lignans.

FISH OILS. Increasing weekly fish intake to 2 or 3 servings, up from the North American standard of less than 1 serving per week, provides a healthy boost of omega-3 fatty acids.

In addition, soy, fish oils, and flaxseed oil are also available as supplements.
